What are dental Implants?
Dental implants are used to replace any missing teeth. If you want a reliable and permanent solution to your missing tooth/teeth, the best option is dental implants.
Basically, a dental implant has 3 parts:
- A screw which is made up of biocompatible material i.e it does not reacts with or harmful for the bone in which it is placed
- A connector (abutment) that connects the inside world to the outside world i.e it connects the screw to the crown
- Crown that sits on top of the connector.
"What are the advantages of dental implants?"
The strength and durability of dental implants are very much better and reliable as compared to conventional bridges placed by cementing them on natural teeth, or traditional partial or full denture placed by taking support from natural teeth in case of the partial denture or from jaw bone in the case of full denture.
However, a patient whose multiple teeth are missing can be benefitted by dental implants used to support a bridge or dentures to provide them with a good stability and retention thereby maintaining the jaw bone height and width and reducing irritation of gums and other oral soft tissues.
Also, dental implant restorations are not susceptible to cavities.
